Mamelodi Sundowns further cemented their position at the top of the Betway Premiership with a 3-1 comeback victory over Marumo Gallants at the Dr. Petrus Molemela Stadium on Wednesday.
Miguel Cardoso’s team found themselves trailing 1-0 at halftime after Sede Dion’s header in the 37th minute gave Gallants the lead. However, the Brazilians responded swiftly in the second half, with Marcelo Allende leveling the score early on, followed by Lucas Ribeiro’s 79th-minute strike that put Sundowns ahead. Iqraam Rayners then secured the win with a late goal, wrapping up the comeback in style.
This victory widened Sundowns’ lead to 12 points over second-placed Orlando Pirates, who saw their match against Golden Arrows postponed due to a waterlogged pitch. Meanwhile, Gallants remain in a precarious 14th place, suffering their third consecutive loss.
Sundowns started the match with intent, with Teboho Mokoena coming close in the second minute, firing just wide of the post. Rayners also had an opportunity six minutes later, heading the ball over the bar. Jayden Adams nearly found the net in the 20th minute, guiding Allende’s cross just over the bar, and Ribeiro tested Arubi with a shot in the 31st minute following a neat combination with Allende.
